Startlingly for any employer who has invested heavily in an Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), our recent Candidate Voice Survey revealed that only around 7% of candidates preferred to use an online form.
And if you thought this was only the case for passive potential applicants then you would be wrong: Active candidates were turned off in almost equal measures by the prospect of completing an online form.
We know from our other research that high proportions of very relevant candidates with intent to apply will abandon a tedious, corporate application process. The blunt, inflexible tools designed for filtering surplus candidates can simply turn off the scarce ones who are not really desperate for your job.
Candidates tell us they have often been tempted by jobs, but frustrated when they discover application entails completion of pages of online forms, especially when they are using a mobile device.
